Experience Portland, the City of Roses
Nicknamed the City of Roses during the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Expo, Portland’s mild climate is ideal for growing roses. Home to the International Rose Test Gardens, Portland is proud of its parks and legacy of preserving open spaces. It has the highest parks-per-capita ratio in the United States. In fact, its Forest Park is the largest wilderness park within city limits in the U.S. Also home to the world’s smallest park, Mill Ends Park, which encompasses just 0.3 square meters, making it little more than a two-foot diameter circle of grass and flowers.
Live in one of the consistently top ranked cities in America
Often cited as an example of a well-planned city, it was voted number one for “general safety” and “ease of getting around” in 2003. As “ America’s Cleanest City” and “Top Recycler Among the Nation’s 30 Largest Cities,” Portland recycled more than 50% of its waste in 2000.
More breweries than Köln, Germany
Located within the fertile Willamette Valley, Portland lies on top of an extinct volcanic field making its soil rich and fertile – perfect for growing hops and barley essential for making great tasting beer. Often considered the home of the microbrew revolution, Portland is well known for its beer. In fact, there are 33 breweries within its city limits – more than in any other city in the world!
