Hillsboro, Oregon is the Washington County seat and is located about 15 miles west of Portland. It’s 90,000 residents make Hillsboro the fifth largest city in the state of Oregon. Due to being located in Washington County, Hillsboro has great schools and lower taxes than nearby Portland. Hillsboro is home to many large employers, such as Intel, Sun, FEI, SolarWorld, Epson, Yahoo!, and several other leading high-tech companies. It is the heart of what is known as the Silicon Forest in Oregon. In 2010, Money Magazine listed Hillsboro on it’s esteemed “100 Best Places to Live” list. Hillsboro proximity to both the ocean and ski trails, access to robust farmer’s markets, golf courses, wineries and shopping as well as a healthy, growing economy helped put Hillsboro on the list.
The Tri-Met Blue Max line and several Tri-met Buses service Hillsboro. Oregon’s second largest airport is the Hillsboro Airport, also known as the Portland-Hillsboro Airport and provides a Port of Entry with a small U.S. Customs and Border Protection office. Highway 26, better known as the Sunset Highway traverses Oregon and runs through the northern edge of Hillsboro. Highway 8 (TV Highway) is the primary east-west path through Hillsboro, connecting Beaverton and Forest Grove.
