More About Southwest Portland Real Estate

Living In Southwest Portland

Part of downtown Portland is included in the Southwest quadrant and is home to many skyscrapers and buildings along with Portland State University. This section of downtown is home to most of the office buildings in Portland. Mixed in with the skyscrapers are many parks and many more restaurants and breweries are moving into the area. The neighborhoods surrounding downtown are South Portland, including South Waterfront where modern condo buildings have been built, or the neighborhoods up in the hills with a variety of grander homes offering great views of downtown and the Cascades. A defining aspect of Southwest Portland is OHSU and its presence can’t be missed. There are now two large campuses; one in the hills and the other along the southern bank of the Willamette and the aerial tram connects the two campuses. There on the south waterfront there are a multitude of modern condo buildings with easy access to downtown via bike paths or the streetcar.

Southwest Portland is in the Portland Public School District and homes feed into two high schools, Lincoln and Wilson. Lincoln High School’s catchment area is made up of the more northern neighborhood while the Wilson High School district lines cover the southern part. Along with the PPS schools, the Dunthorpe neighborhood is serviced by the Riverdale School District, which has a K-8 and a high school. Riverdale is an incorporated neighborhood with privately funded schools.

Surrounding the west hills the neighborhoods share similar qualities, there are many single-family homes with large yards near great schools and parks. Southwest Portland has many different styles of houses to choose from the most common being a 20’s-40’s mid century ranch style to modern masterpieces. This is a perfect area for families or those looking for the tranquility of a suburban home that is still close to the city center.
